F.A.Q.
You do know the Hobbit started in TA 2941 and not TA 2958, right?
- Yes, I am aware. However, as you know (if you haven't, go read the SETTING), there will be a timeskip to the Lord of the Rings once Shadow of Mordor is done. However, in the book version of the Fellowship of the Ring, there is a 17 year timeskip between Bilbo leaving and Frodo setting off on his own quest. This means that there would have to be two timeskips if the book was followed to the letter. Either we timeskip twice, or we skip over A Long Expected Party. I chose instead to cut the skip between A Long Expected Party and The Shadow of the Past like in the Jackson films for the sake of convenience for everyone involved.
You are missing a lot of canon roles. What gives?
- As any fan of Tolkien can tell you, the amount of characters and their roles when it comes to his work is exhausting. It'd be an absolute nightmare to list every single one of them. For example, to my knowledge, aside from his parts in the Silmarillion, Glorfindel only appears to help Frodo flee the Nazgul and get into Rivendell, and then we don't hear from him ever again save for a few mentions. So I really only listed the ones I felt people would actually have an interest in and even then I'm certain I've missed some. If one's not listed and you want it, just shoot me a quick PM about it. 95% of the time I'll say yes. The other 5% is for things like asking to be one of the Valar. That's not happening.
So I can make the other Dwarves for the expedition then as they aren't listed?
- No. The reason for that is the roles don't exist here. Aside from the Burglar (which will be admin chosen), the Grey Witch/Wizard, and the Prince/Princess of Erebor, no one is guaranteed for the expedition. I'm going to let the rest of the expedition work itself out. If you want to come along as one of the Dwarves, talk to the Prince/Princess of Erebor and work something out.
Why would anyone want the Prince/Princess of Erebor? Thorin died.
- Who said they have to die? While Thorin did indeed die, should the Heir of Erebor play their cards right, I won't object if they manage to survive the events of The Hobbit. In fact I'm actually quite curious to see how Middle-Earth would be changed with them ruling Erebor.
Speaking of the Rings, can I have one?
- The Elven Rings already have owners. Four Dwarven Rings were destroyed by Dragonfire and Sauron has the other three. The Nine Rings are with the Nazgul. While the White Witch/Wizard could in theory have a ring of power, as indeed Saruman had crafted one himself, it'd really depend on how obsessed they are with the Rings of Power. If one of the three bearers were to willingly and freely give you their ring with their consent however, I would not object. However, good luck with that; they are extremely powerful and it's unlikely the player, much less the character, will want to give them up.
You are missing a lot of areas for Middle-Earth, what gives?
- Yes, I know. Middle-Earth is massive. I barely scratched the surface. The boards you see, I put there because I figured that they were the ones that would see the most use, while trying to keep a somewhat broad interpretation of the majority of Middle-Earth. Even then I might have missed a couple important locations for sure.
You did; you missed Mordor, Harad, and the East.
- That's intentional. In my years of role-playing, I have learned one thing; if you make an area that is "off-limits", someone will break that. And I'd rather spare myself the headache of having to explain to someone why their character is going to die horribly because they decided to post a thread in Minas Morgul, only for them to complain that that's not fair and they had no idea that going to the malevolent, green glowing, fortress of darkness and undeath might be a bad idea, especially considering that's what got Eärnur killed and Gondor's line of kings broken.
What about Sauron, can I play as him?
- Due to the immense amount of power Sauron has even without his ring, I'm sorry, but no. I'm keeping a tight leash on the Istari as is and to be honest; I don't trust anyone with Sauron himself.
Why didn't the Fellowship just have the Eag--
- Because they would be flying into territory with a super alert being, fellbeasts, thousands of archers, and tons of ballistae that would rip them apart. Not only that, but the eagles of Manwë are strong and, more importantly, proud creatures, and possibly Maiar themselves. Considering how the ring works, chances are the eagles would've dropped Frodo and taken the ring for themselves.
If you have any more questions that you feel should be on here, feel free to PM me and fire them off!
