Serena had agonized over this decision for days when she knew she should not have. The choice should have been an easy one to make. Her duties to her people had always been first within her heart and mind. The elleth could not remember a time when she had felt so conflicted. Why did the words of a man have to linger within her heart and mind so? Perhaps she should have simply allowed him to be on his way without capturing him. Everything would have been so much easier if she had never promised to release him. At times she damned the honorable streak she wore like an armor. Serena had always strived to be a woman of her word, but now she was allowing herself to be swayed from what was important. Even so all she could think of was Fionn desperately searching for his lost child. It was a story that touched her heart in a way she had not expected. Serena believed she would have gone to any lengths if she had had a child of her own. It was a frightening prospect to think of in some ways, and it was a subject that had been broached before. Marriage was not something that was exactly arranged for the eldar, since finding love was much more important. That did not mean that forgoing an heir was unimportant. She cast aside the train of thought quickly, because that was not why she was here. There would be so much anger from her father when he learned the truth of her whereabouts. She had lied about her sudden leave of absence as going on a prolonged scouting mission slightly beyond the borders of Mirkwood. Nínim was restless the closer they traveled close to the shoreline of the lake. Her mare could not travel with her into town, but she could not fathom being parted from the horse for so long. Perhaps she would also help hasten their travels. Serena idly dismounted and allowed her mare to trot back towards safer pastures. Nínim would come when called for. Now the elleth was making her way towards the bridge that lead into lake-town. The hood of her cloak was pulled back, which allowed her to pass through unimpeded. Hers was a familiar face for the lake-men, since she also helped handled trade agreements between her father’s kingdom and the town. Now all she simply had to do was seek out Fionn, which could take some time. XOXO SHIN OF GS + THQ

MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS | The following days after parting ways with the Princess of Mirkwood was spent doing exactly as he intended. He traveled through Lake Town gathering what information he could find of the Fairbyrne family. The very people who took his child away to escape the devastation of the raid that fell his village back in Umbar. Once he knew that his child was back in his arms, there would be hell to pay once he returned back to the Haven. Oh, he was going to take back his place as the rightful ruler once again. The wretched scum who thought of themselves worthy of claiming his title would be punished for their impudence. One thing at a time, dear captain. Family first.
His search felt like it’d bare no fruits by the second day passed. The fates quickly changed that notion when he came into contact with someone who said they knew of the name. An elderly couple did pass through Lake Town by the name of Fairbyrne. They were heading west. The pirate had just missed them by a couple of weeks. Damn it! So to commence on his commiseration to his luck he took a bottle of rum out before taking a swig. The burn in his throat helped keep in aware of his disposition. Sitting at the edge of a small open dock for boats to port themselves.
His sea green eyes flickered off over to the gateway not too far from his perch. It was faint but he could’ve heard the cry of the guards commanding the gatekeeper to let in someone with much haste. It led the blonde male to believe there were one of many options. First being that a shipment of goods was coming in from places far difficult to obtain. The other was the presence of somebody important. He was willing to pet his stash of gold that it was the latter.
Fionn’s suspicions were correct. With her hood drawn down, he noticed Serena’s lovely face. That was a sight that could easily draw up his spirits any day. Up on his feet, he traveled on the wooden boardwalk across the floating town to just casually walk into her view. “Why, look who we have here,” was his greeting, “Did you miss me, princess?” |

Lake-town was certainly growing more crowded with the increase in trade. There was never a short amount of ships to be seen carrying goods from other ports within Middle Earth. Serena had always felt a curiosity towards the sea and what it meant to her people. Would she one day cross those waters to finally rest within the Undying Lands? The call had not yet come to her, and she loathed idea of parting from this land any time soon. There was just so much to be done here that she could not abandon. Was she not doing so, though? Serena was attempting to keep herself from thinking along those lines. It was for a good cause, and she wished to help someone that did not fall within her home borders. Amber eyes flickered over her surroundings before her sensitive hearing caught onto a familiar voice. Her gaze leveled upon Fionn, and she wondered if he had been waiting for her. There was the sharp scent of rum wafting from him that had her wrinkling her nose in distaste. The spirits of man had never been much to her tastes at all. She much preferred the sweet wines that her own people were well known for. Serena merely looked to him with a quirked brow with his offered greeting. Honestly, his parting had nearly flustered her in a way she was unaccustomed to. He was rather daring to kiss her hand in such a forward manner. In a way it was charming, but she would never give voice to that thought. “I--that is not relevant to why I am here.” A faint flush dusted her cheeks before she merely shook her head. “Is there anywhere private we may speak of this matter?” This was something that should not be discussed where anyone could hear. The last thing she needed was word getting back to her father so soon. No doubt rumors would already be voiced about how the princess of Mirkwood was meeting with a man. XOXO SHIN OF GS + THQ

MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS | He feigned a wounded look at her reply. It was all he could do to remain gentlemanly in front of the lady. Her stumble in the speech was beyond endearing. The glitter of amusement in his eyes evident of the pleasure he took in seeing her blushing like young lass enamored by the idleness of spring. “My, I didn’t take you for the type that would dive head first into such things,” he teased her playfully, “I’ve always thought you’d prefer to take things slow and getting to know a person better.” Ah, that might’ve gotten her going a tad~ There was not a trace of shame to be found on his expression.
He tipped his hat to the princess before turning around. He trusted her to follow him and not make a scene. The best kind of hiding was the one where people didn’t suspect anything while in plain sight. He made a sharp turn out of any curious, prying eyes who wanted to know what the princess of Mirkwood was doing. The paths he picked were twisting and could potentially make anybody dizzy just trying to follow him. A jump across boards over the waters, swinging over pulleys until they reached the far side edge of the town. Docks long since abandoned due to the location not being ideal for porting goods. The local superstition was high, which served rather well with their private conversation.
“I apologize for the labyrinth travel,” he chuckled, “I didn’t it would be prudent to take you to a tavern, or the inn I was staying. This section was once used to for imports and exports to and from Dale.” It went without saying that because of events in the past this location hasn’t seen much usage. Plenty of people discourage loitering around it due to it said to be cursed just as the Dwarf-kingdom had fallen under. “I take it you’ve made up your mind?”
He knew he was going to be denied. It went against the very code of honor she had to uphold for her people, her father–the king of the woodland realm. Fionn was aware he was out of his league in regards of asking for the she-elf’s help. Might as well get it over with while savoring the beauty’s company for one more moment. |

Why did he seem to enjoy goading her into losing her composure? Serena could not remember anyone that dared to make such forward comments to her. Even Alexander had never done so with his teasing. She could feel her cheeks darken more at the idea of her inviting him back to his bedroom. Honestly, she should find it beyond insulting he was questioning her virtue even in such jest. Serena soon regained her impassive expression as she stared at him with a quirked brow. “Would you not like to know? Unfortunately, you shall have to live without.” Her tone was somewhat cool at her rebuff. His remark had only been made in jest, but there were more important matters at hand than him attempting to rile her up. Serena followed after Fionn without protest, but it seemed like he was leading them into an aimless direction. There had to be some uninhabited area he was heading to, so she lithely made her way after him. It was a part of lake-town she recognized from quite awhile ago, and it was a rather somber memory. This had once been where goods were traded from Dale. The dragon had destroyed all of the human establishment on his way to take over Erebor. Serena was not particularly fond of dwarves by any means, but she did lament that they had lost their home so violently and quickly. No one deserved to have such a fate fall upon them, which was way she was so vehement on protecting Mirkwood. “It is of little trouble. This provides less of a chance of being overheard anyway. Even drunk men at a tavern can still hear what is being said.” Serena would rather not be leered at by those sort of men, anyway. Now he would be expecting her answer to his earlier proposal. She had the feeling he was expecting her to decline, because that would have been the sane choice for her to make. So much could go wrong if she agreed to go with him. Logic tried to reason with her again as she stayed silent for a moment. Her heart was another matter as it made her own wants known more greatly than it had in the past. “I will aid you in finding your child. I know this portion of Middle Earth better than you most likely, and tracking is a skill I excel at.” Perhaps it would hasten his attempt to find his child with her keener senses and experiences. Not that she doubted his capabilities on searching for something he wanted, but two sets of eyes and ears was always better than one. XOXO SHIN OF GS + THQ

MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS | The Elves were quite an amusing lot if he dare say so himself~ Or perhaps it was just Fionn finding her stern serious demeanor rather endearing to behold. The bred in sense of superiority they had made quite a weak barrier to more crass comments the pirate tended to slip within. Refinery wasn’t something that many had in Umbar. Those who did such as the blonde himself it were a status of wealth. That he had a wealth of an education provided or he learned rather quickly to have an advantage over the common folk. So watching the elf-girl suddenly blushing was a sweet sight. All he gave in response was a shameless grinned, “Perhaps I would.”
A grim feeling could be felt in the air as he gazed upon the distance. Dale was nothing more than a shell of what once stood a rich, prosperous kingdom. Buildings made of stone, wood and metal all lay in melted or burned shambles unable to withstand the dragon fire. It served as a reminder to his own situation. Many lost their homes, their very way of life because of the wyrm. The sad part of it all was the fact nobody knew why it came, or what purpose it served in doing so.
The pirate’s eyes darkened at the moment of reckoning. Tension palpable to the tips of his fingers suspended in the anticipated answer. It was a futile effort but it would’ve made sense for her to simply decline. So when she actually proved to answer him with the exact opposite of what was to be expected, he was quite speechless. He didn’t know exactly what to say or how he should truly feel about the matter. Her reasons were sound but… they made no sense.
“Are you sure it is wise to be traveling around with a man you hardly know? All at the implore of searching for a missing child?” he asked curiously. “Many would say it is nothing more than a fool’s journey. A burden of my own. Leaves me curious if you actually took my words to heart. Quite the compliment, you give, my lady~” |

At least he was enjoying riling her up. Serena would not allow herself to respond back to his teasing remarks in kind. He was not friends with her like Alexander, nor was she willing to drop her guard within his company. His plight had touched her heart sincerely in his earnest desire to find his child. Serena could only imagine that was how her father felt towards her, or how her mother had cared for her in her more shadowed memories. In a way it was more than just helping Fionn search for his lost child. He had been right when he had said she yearned for more than what her duties expected of her. Of course, he did not need to know that his words had caused her such inner turmoil. All that mattered was that she was aiding him as he had wished, right? A fine brow arched at the state of his speechlessness. Now if only he could be rendered into such a state much more often. It was her turn to look at him with amusement. Fionn had good reason to be quite surprised by her decision, because she had been attempting to convince herself for days to decline him. Now it seemed he was attempting to dissuade her with his question, but he was trying to make sense of this for himself. A thoughtful hum escaped her as she glanced over the seemingly endless expanse of water. Perhaps the two of them had met for a reason, right? She had always tried to help anyone in need of it that crossed her path. “Perhaps, but it is one you are desperate for. I know the pain of being sundered from someone far earlier than you have ever expected. You at least have the chance of finding your child, and I wish to lend my aid.” The rest of her reasons were her own. Serena would not admit to taking his words to heart about how she did yearn for more. It was disconcerting enough that she was easy to read by a complete stranger. Her best bet would be to turn this conversation to the true matter at hand, though. “Did you find the information you ventured here for? We should not waste too much time if they are ahead of us.”XOXO SHIN OF GS + THQ

MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS | He surely hoped that the lass knew what she was getting herself into. While he may not have lived as long as the elf has, he knew that what vital information he possessed could make or break it from there on out what bond he formed with her. While she remained mostly neutral in regards of his background save for his missing infant child, surely she would not take too kindly to discover he was none other than the Captain of the Haven. A pirate, who tried to reform, but was quickly drawn back into the chaos that tampered his being to the person he was now. He smiled softly to himself realizing just how out of his league he was becoming in this manner.
“Aye,” he replied, “The family that took my child after my late wife’s passing… the Fairbyrne’s travel western bound having been in Lake Town but a fortnight ago.” Recollecting that information left a bitter taste in his mouth. It meant that staying here any longer wouldn’t do them any good. It wouldn't be long before departure was nigh.
“I may not always look it, but family has always been an important thing to me. I’ve done a lot of things many a man would not look highly upon, and I gave up the life in hopes of preserving the one thing I honored the most.” He didn’t get the chance to hold his child – or at least given the chance to figure out if it was a boy or girl. What worried him the most aside from the endless search was if the child would like him as a father.
“It could potentially be a long journey,” he mentioned, “It’s not too late to back out of this. I’ll harbor no ill-will should you turn back. I'm in it for the long haul.” Least he could do was offer gentlemanly courtesy and all~ If she had any lingering doubts then now would be the best time to confront them. Especially with parting with her own family to help him search for his own. |

Serena did not show too much surprise when Fionn admitted to having lost his wife. The truth was one she had surmised for herself. If the child had been with their mother, then there would be little need to search for him or her. It was still a tragedy that could not be easy to handle, but it seemed his sole goal was focusing on his child now. So they were looking for this family named the Fairbyrne’s that had traveled westward a fortnight ago. The trail was somewhat cold, which meant the weather could have done much to cover any fresh tracks. No doubt they would be heading towards a human settlement that would give them shelter. There were quite a few outlying human villages to check through, but it meant skirting around Mirkwood if they were headed westward. “I am not here to judge what you may or may not have done. Whatever lies in your past does not concern me, I assure you. I am here to help you because you are earnest in your desire to find your child.” It was easy enough to tell he was a seaman of some sort, but she was not to question anything more than that. Perhaps it was better than she did not know if he had lead an unsavory past. Fionn did not have to tell her anything beyond what was relevant to his mission. Serena was quite sure the two would part and most likely not see one another again once his child had been found. He would return to where ever he called home, and she would return to Mirkwood to resume her duties. “I am not someone that goes back on her word, so do not try to dissuade me now that I have agreed. I will see this through no matter the cost.” The consequences would be heavy once she returned home, but Serena was prepared to handle them. Her choice on the matter was clear and done with now. “Now, is there anything left for you to do here? If not, then gather your belongings and meet me outside the gates.” She would wait for him to finish whatever business he had here, but she did not wish for her presence to linger here for too long. The hood of her cloak was pulled up to shadow her face before she turned and lithely followed the labyrinthine path he had set earlier. XOXO SHIN OF GS + THQ
