Arda is a vast place filled with life. There is a great variety of life as well. While dragons and werewolves and cats and balrogs once roamed the land, there is still a great variety. While there are plenty of animals, there are plenty of sapient beings that can think and act outside of present time, to plan for the future and understand concepts. The races below are the available races. PHARAOH LEAP.

Among the eldest of the world, the Maiar are spirits that descended into the world along with the Valar upon Arda's creation. They are older than time itself, and took part in the music that was used to create the world. Though they actually live in Valinor, the lands to the west where the Valar live, five of the Maiar have been sent to Middle-Earth as the Istari, to unite the Free Peoples against Sauron through diplomacy and tact. While they are exceedingly powerful, they have been given a strict set of rules by the Valar that they must follow to the letter.
1) They are to take the form of wizened old men or women. - The Maiar are not allowed to reveal their full splendor to the people of Middle-Earth, though there are some Elves who may know their true name.
2) They are to unite through diplomacy. They cannot lead directly. - The Free Peoples are to win this battle themselves, as they must take care of themselves once the Elves and Maiar leave Middle-Earth. To this end, the Istari unite the races against Sauron, and are forbidden to lead them directly, as to do so would be no better than Sauron.
3) Their magic is an absolute last resort. - As Maiar, the Istari have immensely powerful spells at their disposal, and really, most threats in Middle-Earth would be nothing if the Istari cut loose and went all out. However, they are not to reveal their full splendor. As such, magic is an absolute last resort, and even then, they are to use something more subtle and clever if they are able. That said, simple things like fireworks aren't really an issue.
So long as they follow these rules, then should the Istari perish, their spirit is able to flee and eventually reform in a physical body if they are killed. However, they cannot abuse this power either, and are to try and avoid death whenever possible.
THERE ARE ONLY FIVE PLAYABLE MAIAR; THE WITCHES/WIZARDS. PHARAOH LEAP.

The humans are far and away the most populated race in Middle-Earth. Unlike the Elves who usually stay in the north and the west, and the Dwarves who stay in the mountains, and the Hobbits who stay in the Shire, humans can be found everywhere. They can be found near water, mountains, plains, deserts, there are few places they cannot be found. Humans have the gift of death, in which when they die, their spirit will depart for the Halls of Mandos. What happens after that, no one, not even Manwë knows. However, because of this, regular humans have a lifespan of 80 years while the Dúnedain have a lifespan of around 240 to 250 years. Because of this, compared to the Elves's immortality, humans have long held gripes about their mortality.
Dúnedain are the descendants of the shattered Numenor and Arnor. They are the humans that have the extended lifespan, able to live up to 240 to 250 years. However, the Dúnedain tend to spend their lives protecting the north from orcs and other creatures of Melkor, risking their lives with little thanks from the Free Peoples, if said Free Peopls even know that they exist. Humans come in all sizes, shapes, colors, and faces. Their most common regions to hail from are Rohan, Eriador, and Gondor. But can be found in the deserts and the Northeast as well. PHARAOH LEAP.

The elves are more or less the exact opposite of humans in the population department; there are very few of them, and they are slowly dying. The first race created, the Elves are older than all others, and are blessed with the gift of immortality. As such, once they reach maturity, they stop aging and they can in theory live forever so long as they do not succumb to some other external measure like a sword through the face. However, there is a catch; like the humans, the elves depart for the Halls of Mandos when they die. However, unlike the humans, the elves are doomed to wait in the halls until the end of time itself.
The elves first came to Middle-Earth ages ago, and were instrumental in fighting against the Dark Lord Morgoth. Some of these elves still remain in Middle-Earth to this day, such as the ruler of Lorien. However, as time goes on, many elves find themselves homesick for the land of their true home; Valinor. As time goes on, more and more will begin to leave for Valinor, departing from the Grey Havens into the west. Elves, like humans, tend to come in a variety of flavors. However, they are notable in that all of them will have pointed ears, where the humans have rounded ones. PHARAOH LEAP.

Short, wide, and bearded, the Dwarves are a hardy folk. They tend to keep to their mountain homes and prefer to live surrounded by rock and tone. The Dwarves were created by Aulë the Smith in his impatience to have someone to teach his craft to. However, upon being reprimanded by Eru Ilúvatar, gave the Dwarves to Eru Ilúvatar to do as he desired. Eru Ilúvatar gave them the gift of life, and thus the Dwarves were born in that moment. The Dwarves have a long lifespan, and while not immortal, can often live up to 250 years before finally succumbing to age.
The Dwarves are very notable in that they can pick up crafts very quickly, and that they are considered to be natural metal workers. However, they are especially susceptible to lust for wealth and greed. They can be found in most mountain ranges that are not populated by Orcs and goblins. They are also notable for their beards, which even the females tend to have. It is because of this that some people tend to think that there are no female Dwarves. Although they can seem a bit crude at times, most Dwarves are actually fairly polite, friendly, and well-mannered, in their own way. PHARAOH LEAP.

Hobbits are a peculiar people. They're short, have pointed ears, and large, hairy feet. The only place that hobbits can be freely found is in the Shire, as they hate outsiders and try to stay out of the affairs of the world as much as they possibly can. They believe that so long as they don't go looking for trouble, trouble won't go looking for them. Hobbits for the most part tend to live a quiet 100 years. Though some have been known to go on for a little longer.
The Hobbits tend to keep to themselves, but are exceedingly polite and warm so long as you don't look like you might be trouble. They're always willing to have guests over if they know them, tend to eat a lot, and celebrate their birthdays not by receiving presents, but by giving them to others instead. They are excellent farmers, great cultivators of tobacco, and their ways rarely change, if they change at all. They look down on adventures, and prefer the nice, cozy life that they have, not even knowing they have the Dúnedain to thank for that life.
Due to their unique nature, Willpower check requirements are halved if the one being checked is a Hobbit. PHARAOH LEAP.
